Fleet, GU51 2YB
Telephone: 01252 812333

The headquarters of the Education Authority are in Winchester and enquiries there should be directed to:

The County Education Office,
The Education Department,
The Castle, Winchester SO23 8UG
Telephone: 01962 841841

Transport

Please make your own arrangements to take children to and from school, unfortunately there is no room in the staff car park for parents. Please find somewhere to park in the neighbouring area. It is a good idea to park a little way away from school and walk the last part of your journey if you can. Please ensure that you do not park in the main entrance or on the yellow zig zag lines as it is important to keep this area clear for emergency services. Please park considerately around Broadacres as it is important that we remain on friendly terms with our immediate neighbours. Please help us to keep all our children safe.

School Council

school council

The School Council is made up of elected representatives who meet together to bring ideas and issues from the class council meetings to be discussed. Councillors meet with staff and governors to make decisions that help to improve our school. The School Council has worked with staff on the new playground arrangements and the Tavistock Lunchtime Charter. In September they represented our school at a Fleet School Council Day where they worked on suggestions for improving road safety in our community.

Parents' Corner

parentscorner

Visit Parents' Corner in the school entrance hall for information about local and school events, holiday play schemes, school lunches, lunch box advice and much more.

Don't forget that the most recent newsletters can be found in the red book on the office counter if you think you may have missed one! The office staff will be happy to give you another copy.

Free Fruit and Vegetable Scheme

All children may have a piece of free fruit or vegetable each day for morning break. Children who cannot eat particular fruits or vegetables can bring their own healthy snack on request. All children may bring a bottle of water to drink during the day.

Lunchtimes

Children can have a school lunch cooked on the premises or bring their own packed lunch. School meals provide good value for money and are very carefully planned by the catering company HC3S you can visit their website and see the menus plus lots of other interesting information. Children who have school lunch and children who bring packed lunches all sit together on mixed age tables. We hope that meal-time will provide an opportunity for children to get to know children from other classes. Older children are expected to help the younger ones and conversation is encouraged! There are two lunch sittings with each class having around 30 minutes free-time.

School meals at present cost £2.00 per day.  Weekly payments for school lunch should be made at the beginning of each school week, or lunches can be paid for termly or half termly.  Parents on low income may be eligible for free school meals.  Please ask at the Area Education Office.

New Menu from 20th April 2009

Please ensure all money sent to school is clearly identified with the child’s name and purpose for which it has been sent.

Children can take advantage of the playground climbing equipment and games which include Snakes and Ladders, Draughts and skipping or visit the Library and enjoy a book or listen to 'Storytime'. Other lunchtime clubs are also available such as French, Recorders, and Year Two Computer Club.

The Playground Friends take responsibility for helping those children who need encouragement to join in or who may particularly need a friend from time to time. Children needing a friend can sit at the 'Buddy Stop' which is the invitation to the Playground Friends to take their hand.

At lunchtime the children can join in with organised activities such as Activkids games, football and skipping or enjoy the dressing up clothes, small world play sets, such as the pirate ship, and sit in the quieter book areas.

Children who show that they are keeping to the Tavistock Lunchtime Charter will get an invitation to sit on the special table for a week and also includes receiving a balloon on Friday.

Tavistock Pre-School

The Pre-School group is open to children from the age of two years nine months. A variety of sessions are available, taking place within a safe and stimulating environment with fully qualified staff.

The pre-school room offers a wide variety of experiences plus a secure outside play area. For details of fees and places available please contact the group leader, Mrs Paula Phillips, through the school office.

Through attendance at this group children have an excellent introduction to school life and transfer into full-time schooling with confidence. The knowledge that we gain from working closely with families during the pre-school years enables us to cater for the needs of your child immediately on entry into the reception class and to develop a working partnership between home and school.
